Welcome to the
Picture 47page of the
FSMR website
Although the SMR only runs for the public twice a year (during the summer), the FSMR operates the railway for its members and other special runs throughout the year.
One special occasion is the traditional New Years day steam up which has been part of the FSMR tradition now, since restoring the railway in 1995.
1st of Jan 2002 was no exception and the Curwen Atlantic Green
"John H Gretton" was the "lucky" locomotive providing motive power for the day.
As and added bonus, sub-zero temperatures and lying snow combined with sun and blue sky made for very pleasant photographic opportunities and a very enjoyable trip for members and their families.
Almost looking like a model in the distance, the green "John H Gretton" sweeps along the edge of the frozen lake in glorious New Years day sun.
The railway runs for nearly 1/4 mile along the lakeside before joining the Haven points behind the camera for the mainline return up the bank
