Welcome to the
Picture 52page of the
FSMR website
The SMR has one main signal box, which on public days, is permanently manned and is in power control of all points and signals at the station approaches and within the platforms. Currently, outreaches are controlled by a staff token with a bell interlocked box at the Haven end brought in to use for busy periods. All train guards have two way radios as do the signal boxes and controller as well as inter box phones
A second control box is also manned by the duty railway controller during public running who is ultimately charge of all dispatch and operational decisions
This box houses two way radio base, telephone to the on site phone network including the Haven and the station PA system.
The main signal box is situated in an ideal vantage position in the triangle at the end of the platforms.
The original box from the early years incorporates a slate roof, scale tools and fire buckets and really looks the part.
On public days, it also houses a real signalman complete with electrical and pneumatic point and
The second "signal box" situated at the station is actually the control base and houses the duty controller on public days complete with PA system etc
New for 2002 is the refurbished ticket office, which replaces our old "shed" based office!!
This new one used to be at a miniature railway in the West Midlands but has been out of use for years and the FSMR members have made a superb job restoring it
