The SMR is situated at Stapleford Park (next to the hotel), near Melton Mowbray, Leics, England.

Note,  There are plenty of the Brown Tourism signs directing to the hotel around the area which you can follow.

We are just off the B676 Melton to (A1) Colsterworth road about 4 miles East of Melton.

Head out of Melton on the B676, after about 4 miles at the Saxby industrial park turn right (just before the Wymondham turn) and go over the railway bridge and then hump back river bridge, the SMR is on your left before you reach Stapleford village and hotel entrance (unless parking is in use at the hotel and signposted otherwise on the da

You can also access the railway on the Saturday June 14th from Melton via bus link but you will then need to walk on narrow lanes to reach the village. The bus you require is the Paul James Rutland Flyer that runs from Melton St Marys Hospital junction of Thorpe rd along Saxby rd, about 1/4 mile walk from the Melton railway station)

The drop off is  at the Saxby corner by the turn off by Stapleford and Wymondham where there is a bus stop shelter and is then  about 1/2 mile walk to the entrance to the event via the entrance drive way to the Stapleford hotel. Unfortunately, there is no public entrance on the main gates nearest the drop off point.

Please note the bus does not run on Sundays nor Bank holidays

The FSMR are not responsible for any travel arrangements or incorrect information if you choose this mode of transport. You could also get a taxi from Oakham or Melton railway stations which are both about 20 minutes away.

Melton is about 100 miles due north of London (2 1/2 hrs) and 70 miles from the Cotswolds / Stratford Upon Avon.

Melton Mowbray is the centre of the famous Pork Pie and Stilton Cheese industries and is a very popular tourist area, with plenty of places to stay and see. The Melton website may be of interest if you are planning a visit from outside the area, see the links page on the front of this site. Of course, you could stay at "Stapleford Park Country Hotel", one of the most exclusive in Britain

We are also on the borders of the ancient County of Rutland, which is an attraction in its self, with the close by standard gauge Rutland railway museum a popular location for industrial steam and diesel engines as well as the Rutland water reservoir, the biggest manmade lake in Europe.

Also nearby is the "Great Central" railway. The only double track mainline preserved steam railway in the UK.

And the Nene valley Railway at Peterborough, famous for various James Bond films

We are also only 20 miles from the newly built "Rockingham Speedway". And also 15 miles from the new National Space Centre at Leicester.

More information on the SMR can be obtained via email
